Welcome back to our blog series on sports massage and exercise therapy! If you've read our previous post on how these therapies can help you, you're already familiar with the incredible benefits they offer. Now, get ready to delve deeper into the world of wellness as we introduce you to the concept of Progressive Exercise Therapy.

At its core, Progressive Exercise Therapy is all about movement and progress. We're passionate about tailoring exercise programs that address your unique needs, whether you're recovering from an injury, aiming to prevent future ones, or simply seeking to enhance your strength and overall well-being.

Building on a solid foundation

Before we begin working with you on progressive exercise therapy, you will have experienced an initial exercise therapy consultation and examination, followed by a revitalising massage.

We will then collaborate to design a personalised plan, which you can work on either independently or alongside a therapist. We will equip you with functional exercises to complete as your 'homework'...it’s not as bad as school homework, we promise!

What comes next?

So, what comes next in your journey towards improved health and strength? In every subsequent appointment, your exercise regimen will be upgraded in a gradual manner. This progression might involve building muscle strength or increasing your range of motion, depending on your specific requirements.

Furthermore, we'll pay close attention to your form, ensuring that you're performing each exercise optimally. For instance, if you're a runner, we might analyse your running technique through video and offer guidance on making necessary corrections.

What is our approach to progressive exercise therapy?

Our approach revolves around quality rather than quantity. We'll provide you with a carefully curated selection of exercises to perform, usually just once a day and with a manageable number of repetitions. This ensures that your exercise routine remains achievable within your daily schedule. And yes, we're all about balance – occasionally, we might even give you a well-deserved day off as a reward for your commitment!

One challenge we often encounter is that people underestimate the significance of rehabilitation and strengthening exercises in the recovery process and injury prevention. As part of your treatment, we're here to elucidate the critical role these exercises play. They're not only instrumental in recovering from injuries but also in preventing them in the first place.

What misconceptions are there about progressive exercise therapy?

It's a common misconception that strength and conditioning exercises are monotonous and time-consuming. However, with proper programming, these exercises can be engaging, mentally stimulating, and extremely beneficial for your body, regardless of your goals. Over time, as you observe positive changes in your body and abilities, you'll likely find motivation to keep pushing forward.

What are the benefits of progressive exercise therapy?

There are many benefits to incorporating progressive exercise therapy into your routine, including:

Continuous growth: The main advantage of PET is its ability to stimulate continuous growth. Whether your goal is muscle building, weight loss, or overall fitness improvement, this method ensures you're always progressing toward your desired outcome.

Long term health: Thinking long-term, embracing strength training is a smarter choice for your body. Rather than seeking our assistance only when injuries occur, let's work together to thwart injuries from arising in the first place. By amalgamating maintenance massages, exercise therapy, and strength and conditioning work, you can set the stage for a healthier future.

Plateau prevention: We've all experienced exercise plateaus – those frustrating moments when it seems like our progress has stalled. Progressive exercise therapy effectively combats plateaus by constantly challenging your body, preventing it from settling into a comfort zone.

Injury prevention: Sudden leaps in intensity can lead to injuries. With progressive exercise therapy, you'll minimise the risk of injuries by allowing your body to adapt to new challenges at its own pace.

Personalised approach: This approach recognises that every individual is unique. With PET, you can tailor your workout routine to your specific goals, fitness level, and preferences. It's all about finding the right balance for you which is where we can step in to help!
